EVA III - a sample concentrator/evaporator
for a broad range of applications
The new EVA III evaporator by LCTech processes automatically
up to 52 samples sequentially. The ideal application
is the reproducible concentration of samples from
a sample container to a defined end volume. The evaporator
is therefore particularly suitable for sample series,
which can be processed one after the other. Such
series are typically found in analytical laboratories.
In addition, the system is ideal for its use in the
field of sample preparation, e.g. the concentration
after the extraction with the DIONEX-ASE-System,
the DFG S19 L-00.00.34
GPC cleanup method or
the H53-method (DIN EN ISO 9377-2).
The essential advantages of this new evaporators include:
- Individual processing of each sample
- High evaportaion rates
- Defined end volume of 1 mL or 5 mL
(evaporation not to dryness)
- High recovery rates and outstanding
reproducibility
- Solvent exchange
- Low in emission
- Flexible
- Robust and simple
Individual processing of each sample
Each sample can be processed individually. Up to 98 processing profiles can be
saved as a numerical program, re-loaded within seconds and then assigned to
another sample in free combination. With this procedure, the characteristics
of the matrix or the constituents can be carefully considered when the parameters
are chosen. Consequently, the vacuum profile per sample can be pre-set according
to the respective requirements and the sample can be concentrated either very
gently or extremely quickly. Carry-over effects are reliably avoided by individually
adjustable rinsing cycles.
High evaporation rates
The two essential processing parameters are vacuum and energy input. A frequency-
controlled membrane vacuum pump by VACUUBRAND, Wertheim is an integral part
of the system. This pump can evacuate a system up to approximately 2 mbar
or else may be operated in a stepped vacuum profile for very gentle processing,
which, for example, is important for pesticide analyses. Through direct heat
transfer (closed silicon oil bath), the required energy can be transmitted
both effectively and efficiently to the sample. The temperature can be set
and maintained anywhere between room temperature and 70°C +/- 1 °C.
This design enables evaporation rates of up to 10 mL/min.
Defined end volume
The sample can be concentrated to a defined end volume. Thereby, evaporation
of the samples to dryness is reliably avoided. End volumes of 1 mL or 5 mL
are available.
High recovery rates and excellent reproducibility
With automation throughout, high recovery rates and excellent reproducibility
are guaranteed.
Solvent exchange
Solvent exchange is possible using a special program (and optional equipment),
evaporation to dryness and subsequent dissolving in a different solvent is
possible.
Low in emission
The system can be operated as a completely closed system. Sample container and
autosampler vials can be closed with seals. The condensed distillate is automatically
discharged into a collection basin (waste). The evaporator flask is rinsed
automatically in a very efficient manner. Residues are completely rinsed off
(no cross-contamination between samples).
Flexible
The system can be loaded with up to 52 samples of 60 mL each, with 26 samples
of 100 mL each or with 12 samples of 250 mL each. Collection can be dispensed
to either 1 mL autosampler vials or different 16 mL vials.
Robust and simple
The system was developed for fully automated operation in the laboratory. Consequently,
the EVA III evaporator can also be used for "overnight runs". For
this reason, the evaporator has been designed with robustness and low maintenance
in mind. Most common solvents(excluding Water) can be utilised and the evaporator
is self-cleaning and quiet. The systems operation is single keypad-controlled
and therefore incredibly simple.
